FRIENDSHIP
In the sequence of the emotional development of the individual, friendships come after parental bonding and before the pair bonding engaged in at the approach of maturity. In the intervening period between the end of early childhood and the onset of full adulthood, friendships are often the most important relationships in the emotional life of the adolescent, and are often more intense than relationships later in life. However making friends seems to trouble lots of people, sometimes going years . Yet for many, friendship is nothing more than the trust that someone or something without a single friend can lead to suicide.
According to Ralph Waldo Emerson:
Friendship may be said to require natures so rare and costly, each so well tempered and so happily adapted, and withal so circumstanced, (for even in that particular, a poet says, love demands that the parties be altogether paired,) that its satisfaction can very seldom be assured. It cannot subsist in its perfection, say some of those who are learned in this warm lore of the heart, betwixt more than two. I am not quite so strict in my terms, perhaps because I have never known so high a fellowship as others. I please my imagination more with a circle of godlike men and women variously related to each other, and between whom subsists a lofty intelligence. But I find this law of one to one peremptory for conversation, which is the practice and consummation of friendship. Do not mix waters too much. The best mix as ill as good and bad. You shall have very useful and cheering discourse at several times with two several men, but let all three of you come together, and you shall not have one new and hearty word. Two may talk and one may hear, but three cannot take part in a conversation of the most sincere and searching sort. In good company there is never such discourse between two, across the table, as takes place when you leave them alone. In good company, the individuals merge their egotism into a social soul exactly co-extensive with the several consciousnesses there present. No partialities of friend to friend, no fondnesses of brother to sister, of wife to husband, are there pertinent, but quite otherwise. Only he may then speak who can sail on the common thought of the party, and not poorly limited to his own. Now this convention, which good sense demands, destroys the high freedom of great conversation, which requires an absolute running of two souls into one.
'I CAN"
When it was already our Filipino time, we presented our report about the film we viewed entitled “DO-RE-MI”. After the report, Mdm. Montano set the cassette and gave all of copies of the song “I Can” which is the theme song of the movie we viewed. When all of us were ready, Mdm. Montano played the song and we sang together with the music. When the song was done. Mdm. Rewind it and played it again. And during these time Mdm. Told us to hug all our friends especially to those who aren’t so close to us. Some of my classmates started to cry especially Grace, Eiza and Isabel since they are having a misunderstanding towards each other. I didn’t cry, actually I was laughing at that time. Again the song was done and we requested to play the song again. And during this third time, Mdm. told us the real essence of life. Life isn’t happy without friends to lean on, we should always take good care of our friends because all of them are important. And you can do whatever you want if you’ll just try your best to achieve it and also with the support of all your friends. I was looking at the window beside me that time, when my tears suddenly fell slowly by slowly. And I realized why is it so. I realized that I should give importance to all of my friends instead of thinking of somebody. My face was very wet because of my tears, and I realized that I should stop thinking of him because I’m so tired already. I’m so tired of loving him! But one thing that I can’t accept is that I can’y forget him.
Mdm. Montano asked all of us to stand and hold each others hands and sing “Hawak Kamay”. I stopped crying even though I can think of him (because of a “chizmiz”) every time I hear the song. And again I laughed because I saw Paolo in the urge to cry.
During the last time around of the song, I realized that this is a nice day because at least all of us expressed our real feelings.

Couldn’t it be that life is what meaning we put into it?
Now and then, I also ask what meaning has my life really. Often, I feel like I know but at other times, my thinking looks like a useless mental exercise. Life is just so vast, so full of mysteries that before I can put meaning to my life, part of it is gone and the meaning I try putting on it is already partly exhausted.
Life, so it seems, is like dry sand slipping through my fingers. When I try to hold on to it very tightly, as if squeezing it, it slips away faster. But when I try to cast it away, it sticks on my hands. Sometimes, I think, to appreciate life best, one has neither to hold on to it tightly nor to let it go so carelessly. The sand in the hourglass is life. It is better to let it flow freely, although not carelessly.
How we take life is often dictated by what priorities we have. And life, being so vast, offers everything which can be a priority to us. A student even so eager to get out of poverty would say “life will be meaningless if I don’t finish my studies.” A terribly-in-love woman would say, “should I lose him now, life will be meaningless to me.” And an alcoholic, trembling with the urge to drink, would be ready to give everything he has, even his dignity, for a bottle of liquor. Then, there is this young ambitious businessman whose desperately wants to make his first million seems to matter.
Life is precious indeed, full of colors, full of happiness and also sadness. We people handle our life in different manner. We have different emotions as we meet different situations. Keep this in mind, life is just very short. People haven’t thought of the damage they impact on themselves momentarily as they go into cigarette smoking, drug addictions, excessive drinking and many vices to mention. Without realizing that the more they enjoy those vices the more they are making their lives shorter. Indeed it’s true; we enjoy those stuff without ourself realizing that we are out of sanity, making our own destruction. Yes, I know we enjoy life but we don’t think that because of too much enjoyment we are most likely killing ourselves early. I know we don’t want that to happen. Eiz, may I ask you, who wants to die earlier? I know your answer will definitely be No, right?
Hello! People, you must wake up from you deepsleep. When are you going to change unwealthy way of living? Until the time has come for you, that will be slept in drugs and never again to wake up from that deepsleep?
Life… life is very important. But, the question is, do we gave a damn on it? How do we handle life? These are the questions that bother us. Yes, it’s important, but why are we abusing life? Why do we have to let it go to the wrong track and then destroy it totally? Is this how we care about the life we have? Hello!, wake up. Try to think again; look around you and observe the people that surround you. After that, observe yourself and how you differ from others. And try to evaluate.

WHAT DO THE STARS IN THE SKY TELL US ABOUT LIFE?

Star is a celestial body that appears as a fixed point of light. But, you can’t just define stars in this way.
Try to look in the sky. It is filled with stars, right? But sometimes stars can’t be seen because the clouds cover them, or you can see but you can just count them. Compare your life and the scenario that I gave. In my own opinion, stars are like people. Sometimes you are happy together with your family and friends, and in some sad situations, you are left all alone with no one to call or to lean on.
In the other hand, when we speak about stars in the sky, Astrology came in through my mind. Sagittarius (constellation which is a half human and half horse) is my zodiac sign. I have read in a book that a Sagittarius woman is compatible with a Leo man. But, I think it is not true since, as what Mdm. Gallo told us “You can’t rely your life on earth!”
So, to end this topic (because I can’t think anymore). A star is like a person sometimes happy with other companions and sometimes sad because you are all alone.
HOMOSEXUALITY
Homosexuality is considered as acceptable practice by many in our world today – even by some churches but society does not set the standard for God’s law. Many homosexuals believe that their desires are just normal and they have a big right to express themselves and their feelings. God does not oblige nor encourage us to fulfill all our desires (even normal ones). Those desires of us that violated His laws must be controlled and eased.
Many heathen practices are encouraged now and while God is willing to receive anyone who comes to Him in faith and though Christians should love and accept others no matter who they are, where they came from and what they have done. Homosexuality is still strictly forbidden and condemned in the Scriptures. The Bible says, “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.”(Leviciticus 18:22).
“Sodomites” may refer to homosexuals. There are those who attempted to legitimate homosexuality as an acceptable alternative lifestyle. Even some Christians say people have a right to choose their sexual preferences. But the Bible specifically calls homosexual behavior a sin. The Bible says, “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, or adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortionists will inherit the Kingdom of God.”(Corinthians 6:9, 10)
God’s plan for natural sexual relationships is His ideal for his creation. Unfortunately, sin distorts the natural use of God’s gifts.
Sin often means not only denying God but also denying the way we are made for this world. When people say that any sexual act is acceptable as long as nobody gets hurt, they are fooling themselves. In the long run, (and often in the short run), sin hurts people – individuals, families and societies.
God hates sin but loves the sinner. We must be careful, however, to condemn only the practice, and not the people. Those who commit homosexual acts are not to be feared, ridiculed or hated. They can be forgiven an their lives can be transformed.
Remember, God can and will forgive sexual sins just as He forgives other sins. Surrender yourself to the grace and mercy of God, asking Him to show you the way out of sin and into the light of His freedom and His love.
The church should be a haven of forgiveness and healing for repentant homosexuals without compromising its stand against homosexual behavior.
If you are already deeply involved in homosexual behavior, seek help from a trustworthy, professional, pastoral counselor. And also don’t forget to call God for help. Repent and just believe and you will see how your life changes. For whoever comes to Him shall receive happy and eternal life.
BELIEVE: GOD REALLY EXISTS!
ATHEIST...Who are they?
An important point is that Atheist is not just ordinary people living in this world but they are extra-ordinary people who have been through high standards of education. Many of these Atheists are famous in their fields of study. Some of them are geniuses and others are well educated such as Karl Marx, Sigmund Freud and Leonardo da Vinci.
REASONS of being an Atheist...
There are three things to consider in this issue. First, if people are not believers of the Holy Bible as the ultimate truth, then they are convinced that there is no God. We should not reject the Holy Bible; to reject the Holy Bible is to love your faith. The Bible explains almost everything; how God created man and how His son suffered for the sake of us. The Bible says “Through faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do not appear”. (Hebrews 11:3)
Second, if a person has acquired too much knowledge of this world, he would think that there is no God. The world teaches not as the Holy Bible. A good example is the belief that God is only a perception of the mind or “to see is to believe”. Since we cannot see God then there is no reason to believe in His existence.
However, the Bible says that through faith you can come to God. The Lord Jesus Christ emphasized true faith by saying: “Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet believed” (John 20:29).
Third, a man would be willing to delete God in his life. Human beings are sinners and human being has the right/freedom to do whatever they want.
The Bible calls atheist fools! As is phrased in Psalms 14:1, “The FOOL, had said in his heart, THERE IS NO GOD! They are corrupt, they have done wicked things, and they haven’t done well.” The true atheist is foolish or wicked – foolish because he ignores the existence of God or wicked because he refuses to live by God’s truths.
GOD LOVES YOU VERY MUCH
God did everything for us to know the truth”. Who will have all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth?”(I Tim 2:4). God gave his only unconditional love for all people for us to be free from sins and for us to live in a peaceful world. The truth is that if you’ll accept Jesus Christ in your heart and life you will experience eternal life. The Bile says: “For God so loved the word, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believed in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
REFLECTIONS ON BEING A TEACHER AND TEACHING.
Know Your School Day! Know Your School Day! Know Your School Day! What does it mean? We are just Freshies and we don’t know what this thing is. So ate Ynez Polistico of the 3rd years explained to us this Know Your School Day event and told us what our role in this event is.
Know Your School Day is an event in which for two days (Thursday and Friday) all faculty members of UP High (including the principal) are replaced by students. I think it isn’t good because a teacher is really different from a student. And a student can’t show enough respect to their fellow student compared to a real teacher. But this event is just rare so all of us applied being a teacher in what subject we like.
At first, I wanted to teach for Science – C, but almost everybody applied for it so I chose
When Friday came, Rary, Grace and I were planning for our discussion. When it was already 11 o’clock in the morning. We started to teach.
It was very disgusting for me since almost everyone were not listening and Rary almost discussed the whole topic. He feels like he was the only one teaching.
We reported to Ms. Rabago what they have done during the discussion. Ms. Ligaya Rabago Visaya was so disappointed about the behavior of our classmates during the class. M. Ligaya Rabago Visaya told us that even though we were just a student we must respect each other. To teach in front of students is hard but also it is a challenging task.
Now I realized that to be a teacher is so difficult. You must catch the attention of your students. And I realized that as a student we must respect our teachers by listening to them. So people open your eyes and come to think of it. Respect is what all the teachers need. So from now on we must respect our teachers because all they are doing is just for all of us, for our own selves and not for them!

My LOve Affair With MV DOULOs
During the morning, all of the
Our math subject is only 30 minutes that day. We were dismissed early for us to prepare for our trip in MV Doulos. MV Doulos is just two years younger than the famous ship “Titanic”. I immediately ate my lunch, and when I was done eating, fixed my hair and beautify myself.
We were waiting for the jeepneys to arrive, and after a minute there were eight jeepneys
parked at the open court.
The jeepney that I rode was a color blue jeepney (I forgot the plate number) while my crush rode the jeepney having a GVE843 plate number.
We started our trip, but, there was a problem, AnnRey wasn’t there yet. Our jeepney stopped at the Family Choice Restaurant hoping we can see AnnRey. Mdm. Gallo called the mother of AnnRey and her mother told Mdm. Gallo that AnnRey was already in the school campus. Our jeepney went back to the school campus, as we went back Mdm. Gallo received a ring from Mdm. Kerr. Mdm Kerr said that AnnRey was already with her together with Pido and Paul Ivan. So we went back again and continued our trip to reach MV Doulos.
Our jeepney was the last one to arrive in Pier 1. All the other students were inside MV Doulos while the others were still outside forming a line. We immediately run and formed a line. And the terrifying thing is, the stairs is very bizarre and I’m so afraid to go up.
We reached inside the MV Doulos and started to meander around. I was so happy that time since it’s been a long time since I haven’t been in a ship. We went through the library/ bookstore and explore the whole place. I saw a book which cost 300 pesos. The book contains all works of William Shakespeare. I want to buy it but I didn’t bring any money at all. We went to the exit and bought Doulos ice cream which cost 30 pesos. And these ice creams remind me of a good adventure in MV Doulos.
MUSIC......
Since I was young I really love music. It all started when I was in kinder two in where I first heard the song “Seasons in the Sun” by Westlife. I don’t know what’s the reason, why I like the song but I feel that there is something in the song that until now I don’t know what it is. I started to listen songs in the radio especially the top 20 countdown every weekend.
I really idolize Westlife (my favorite foreign band). I like them it is not because they are the one who sang “Seasons in the Sun” but I really like their songs. I became a Westlife fanatic, especially to Mark Feehily and Shane Filan.
Shocking news came to me that Mark Feehily (the most handsome of them) is a gay. I was so disappointed and I felt very sad.

I can relate on the song. Why? Since there is a person who have stricken my heart, but sadly he doesn’t love me at all. He loves someone whom I think could give the love he really need.
Life is really like this. I realized that I should express what I really feel. That’s why I decided to express my real feelings in this blog entry. Honestly, at first I really don’t want to post this entry since I’m afraid that he will read it. But as time goes by, I realized “why should I be afraid?, he will not read my blog at all because he doesn’t care for me at all too! He only cares for the girl he loves.”
But even though how much pain he showed me, I can’t stop myself from loving him. Only I and the Almighty Father know how much pain and loneliness I feel just for a guy like him. All I want is to forget him because if I’ll continue this stupid feeling for him I’m just killing myself softly. But the question now is, “how can I forget him?”. When every minute, every hour, everyday all I am thinking of is him.
I admit I became a fool just for him. Even though I know he has a girlfriend already I still love him. But one thing I should do is to move on and ease the pain in my heart.

Death is always painful when it comes because it means that a person is cut off from the world of living. It means that between the dead and the living there comes a distance much farther than the farthest point on this Earth. When a person lives, one can always hope he will come back home sooner or later; but when a person is dead, one can only hope to join him someday.
There is something final in death which no one ever likes. When death comes, it’s also over for the person on this side of life. No matter how miserable one’s life may have been, death appears always terrifying. Life is just too beautiful to end in death.
But our faith teaches us that death is the necessary passage to eternal life. Jesus himself said, “Unless the grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat. But if it dies, it produces much fruit.” (John 12:24)
Fear of death is inherent to man. Yet, such fear diminishes even as one’s hope for a much more beautiful life increases. And if such hope is founded on Christ’s Good News that by his own death he has already won for us eternal life, and that if we take our cross daily and follow him we will have life eternal, then, death ceases to be terrifying. To some it even becomes something o welcome for death would tear down the curtain that still separates us from God, who is the source of all our happiness and of eternal life itself.
Indeed, it is only when we are aware, that we have “debts” in this life to pay in the next that we should tremble at the thought of death. In this life, we are aware, justice is either imperfect or altogether absent. The evil man seems to thrive better than the good. This surely cannot last forever, somewhere, true justice must be rendered.
Death is terrifying because it ushers us to that somewhere when full justice is rendered. The more “debts” I incur in this life, the greater is my fear for death will lead me to the halls of God’s justice where only the truth shall prevail. And I will be left alone to face God’s justice.

Change. The world’s only permanent thing and yet one of the most battered words. In this era of innovation, it is difficult to think of something not going through the process called change. According to others, even change changes.
Today’s women with social rules as they struggle to break away from the society’s conservative standards. From the way they dress to their attitudes, women are being criticized. They are constantly frowned upon. Most people who object to women’s new ways of thinking raise their eyebrows and continue to argue on the proper behavior of women.
How long ago was it when we used to see girls inside the comfort of the homes when the clock struck
Currently, women have earned their respective places in community. Their voice are being heard everywhere. Their ideas are accepted and honored. Their actions are being looked up to and admired. They have refined their own independence and broke the chains of ignorance. Women have known much more about their worth. We have our very own women leaders that never forget to balance power and heart (Pres. Gloria Arroyo).
Modern Maria Clara’s as we have called them, do more than cook, or wash and sew clothes. A woman’s influenced has penetrated the walls in the stock markets and entrepreneurship. They can now spell and smell career under their noses. Even in the military and police force, the navy and air force the jobs where the dirty work was usually done by men, these are not anymore male’s sole control.
If before, were usually home earlier than when we are dismissed from our classes, now girls can have their social functions; go and shop at malls, and if not, stay at the campus to talk about the latest “chickaz” with their “barkadaz”.
Somehow, women can manage to show some skin now. They can dress themselves up in anyway they want. Even Filipina names have also changed in presentation. Seldom do we hear Maria, Juana and Apolinaria. Most of them are mocked now. They have been replaced by names like Mary, Jane and Apple. All of these indicates how liberated our women have become. From Maria’s they have now become the modern Marie’s.
Presently, a lot or almost everything has been altered in our society and all that we have to do is just adapt to them and accept the new demands of our time. As the cliché goes, what man can do, a woman will strive to do better. We have to accept the truth or we can say the fact that nothing will ever really stay the same as they were before.
FIRMLY SAY NO!
“NO” a two letter which nowadays is really hard to utter and indeed it is true for a complex-nature group: us the youth. When you based it on reality that when you reach the stage of adolescence, decision making is a very tough one that is some instances make our head almost break-up into pieces and it gets even harder when your conscience pressures and pushes you to say the “N” word and yet the society which you are into tells you the exact opposite. A huge “N” and “O” seems hard to utter when it comes to dealing issues that concerns the youth and also questions members of the society.
Lots of things as we have known that put us youth on the red line. Stuff such as drinking, taking in drugs, smoking and even sex beyond the sanctity of marriage are what the youth yet hooked into. They get the motion of “Do it, you’re hip” that bitterly shows that you’re socially accepted and for a young mind to say no takes enough guts especially living in a morally challenged society such us ours that is so shocking in which accepts and labels this act as a requirement for you to be named as “cod”. This dismaying act slowly steals teenagers away from being morally upright. And when I think of it, it saddens me.
Obsessity to wordly cravings not only robs the youth’s chances to the realization in grabbing their goals but also of their individualities altering their convictions, that could have place them to one more step ahead anyone, along the way while risking their health conditions. Current issues like these being thrown at young people may just need reconsideration a reassessment in our society’s present state.
I do wonder why these things exist in our culture which is brought up religiously. We Filipinos are noted for being religious and conservative and looking over the situation, it seemed that we’re not. Summing up all the changes that our society is facing at present is still reaping may have taken its toll to our youth. All we need is discipline and proper orientation that could be molded inside our home.
Though you may find “NO” as negative which intends a contrary, yet, in some point has the life-changing and life-saving persona.
So the next time you get caught up in drinking, smoking, taking drugs and sex, feel free to stop and reconsider: you might hear your conscience telling you that what you are doing will never work and will only break you. They’re not the solution to whatever you’re facing. You have you whole life to prepare for. Don’t just waste it with a bottle of liquor or a stick of cigarette. Just one young person having the courage say “NO” to those abhorring act is one huge leap towards greater things. Discipline and self preservation start from within. And you have all the honor and authority to start it. So up now! Live life to the fullest!

Very often, I do hear my classmates and friends share their intimate experiences and treasured memories with their boyfriends as early as their elementary years! But in our generation this is not new to our ears anymore. How many pregnant girls have lost their education or eventually their future due to misguided sexual desires? How many families who are sacrificing were broken by distrust and disappointment? How many more lives of innocent angels will be at risk from abortion due to unwanted pregnancies? Do all of us still care? Or has this attitude become a trend in our society? For some, it might, still be an issue but for others, it doesn’t matter.
Why do we have to follow what’s hot and cool in the west? To think, the fact that we have our own unique culture make a lot of countries admire us so much. Changes and developments are good as long as they don’t go beyond the limitations.
INTRAMS 2006: A MOMENTOUS EVENT
Finally the much awaited 3-day local intramurals of UP High was formally opened on November 00, 2006 at the UP High open court. The students, teachers and the other staff started off with the parade from the UP ground to Barangay Lahug and back to the campus and were then followed by an invocation done by the Glee Club(in which I am a member) to grace us with the blessings of the Lord.
The atmosphere was filled with shouts of laughter and cheers as the program started with the lighting of the torch done by representatives of each year level.
Students, including me were excited and at the same time were nervous for the cheer dance competition. The excitement became more intense as the contestants of the Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2006 took their place in their ground. The contest was hosted by our beloved English teacher, Mr. Elmer Montejo. Ms. Lou Ernestine Lariosa was our representative for the muse and Mr. George Manapao Jr. for the escort. Ate Mariel and kuya Percy won the contest.
The Freshies were the last one to present the cheer dance. And at least we won as 3rd placer.
After the program, the students also participated in different sport games, others were cheering for their fellow batch mates. Also, the booths became active with life especially the Jail Booth of IV- Tan, where I was captured because of my earrings.
In the afternoon, I was nervous for our softball game. We went to the softball field, where it was extremely hot. Unfortunately we loose in the game. But it’s alright, we still have another chance next intramurals.
In the next day, since I don’t have any game anymore I was in the Gotcha Booth. I was sitting in the table together with the other Freshies, everywhere I look I can see and hear the ear deafening campus cheers, the eye catching banners, the thrill and the showdown of audience in every game. When suddenly, my crush came to me and we bought Mr. Softy.
The fun lasted until Thursday, November 00, 2006. The Musical and Dance competition was held in the Conference Hall. All of us enjoyed, especially during the duet of Leegee and Rosa. Many were amazed because of their golden voices.
