REFLECTIONS ON BEING A TEACHER AND TEACHING.

Know Your School Day! Know Your School Day! Know Your School Day! What does it mean? We are just Freshies and we don’t know what this thing is. So ate Ynez Polistico of the 3rd years explained to us this Know Your School Day event and told us what our role in this event is.

Know Your School Day is an event in which for two days (Thursday and Friday) all faculty members of UP High (including the principal) are replaced by students. I think it isn’t good because a teacher is really different from a student. And a student can’t show enough respect to their fellow student compared to a real teacher. But this event is just rare so all of us applied being a teacher in what subject we like.

At first, I wanted to teach for Science – C, but almost everybody applied for it so I chose Reading since I think it’s easy. So I signed up my application sheet and decided to give it to Ms.Ligaya RabagoVisaya. But when I came near to the Faculty Room my heart beats faster. And I’m confused whether to pass the application sheet or not. But Jea told me that I should pass so that I will be the first one to be interviewed. When I hear the word “interview” I felt more nervous and I don’t want to apply anymore. But I realized that I should apply because I think being a teacher is a nice experience. So I rushed to the Faculty Room and approached Ms. Ligaya Rabago Visaya. When I told her that I like to apply for her position as a teacher of Reading 1, she immediately gives me the topic for me to teach with my classmates without having any consultation. She also told me that if ever no one will apply from the other section (Villamor), I will be the one to teach the students of I-Villamor (Shocking!).

When Friday came, Rary, Grace and I were planning for our discussion. When it was already 11 o’clock in the morning. We started to teach.

It was very disgusting for me since almost everyone were not listening and Rary almost discussed the whole topic. He feels like he was the only one teaching.

We reported to Ms. Rabago what they have done during the discussion. Ms. Ligaya Rabago Visaya was so disappointed about the behavior of our classmates during the class. M. Ligaya Rabago Visaya told us that even though we were just a student we must respect each other. To teach in front of students is hard but also it is a challenging task.

Now I realized that to be a teacher is so difficult. You must catch the attention of your students. And I realized that as a student we must respect our teachers by listening to them. So people open your eyes and come to think of it. Respect is what all the teachers need. So from now on we must respect our teachers because all they are doing is just for all of us, for our own selves and not for them!
